Spring Practice General Information PDF Print E-mail

For Spring 2008, we are paddling three times a week on a regular basis: Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:45 to roughly 7:45 and Saturday mornings from 9:00 to roughly 11:00. Please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it if you need more information.

What to bring/wear:

  • Dress warmly in layers of synthetic or wool fabric. Please do not wear cotton! A waterproof shell can be good to have, especially in the rain, but you'll want something breathable like gore-tex or else you'll get awfully warm once you've been paddling awhile.
  • We require all paddlers to wear a life jacket in the winter. We have a limited number of club vests available, but if you have your own please bring it.
  • Neoprene boots/shoes are nice to have since your feet will probably get a little wet when you get in and out of the canoes. Other waterproof shoes work fine, and sandals with nice warm wool or synthetic socks will do the trick.
  • A warm hat, or possibly something with a brim if it is raining.
  • Gloves (REI and other outlets sell paddling gloves, although bike or other style gloves will suffice for newcomers).
  • If you have it, bring a spare shirt or jacket in a small dry bag, just in case.
  • Definitely bring some warm dry clothes (including socks) to change into after practice.
  • Water or your hydration beverage of choice.

Be sure to study our ***(insert link) safety information before you come down. Plan on several sets of moderate to vigorous exercise lasting from 20-45 minutes with 5-10 minute breaks in between.
